The Expectations of a Woman's Youth

"The Expectations of a Woman's Youth" (2023) is a 9”x 12” drawing done with graphite pencils. The novel “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen inspired me to create this piece. I wanted to comment on the strict social, gender, and marital norms of which women during the time of the novel’s publication were forced to subject. In this period, a woman was pulled from her youth and forced to endure a society where these expectations were inescapable.
