About Madeline McLean

Madeline McLean is a Visual Artist who specializes in realism and surrealism. She has won four Scholastic Art Awards: two Scholastic Gold Keys and two Scholastic Silver Keys for various pieces in her portfolio. Her main media for creating her pieces are graphite pencils, Micron pens and India ink, and oil paints. She has been making art since she could remember, and really began practicing and developing a personal style at the age of thirteen. At that point, she wanted to develop a career as a visual artist and has been working towards that goal ever since. She gathers her inspiration from personal experiences, events, songs, or from wanting to capture a specific emotion or feeling in a piece. She is currently building a body of work to submit as an art portfolio to colleges.

She has developed a personal style through working many years with instructor David Riedel, who is the art teacher at Heritage Middle School in Wake Forest, NC. Through his coaching, she has learned traditional oil painting techniques and practices. In the Summer of 2022, she attended the rigorous Steinhardt Summer Art Intensive at NYU. This experience helped develop her personal style and exposed her to many different media such as sculpture, gouache painting, and drawing in India Ink and Micron Pens. Additionally, she learned how to use digital art platforms such as ProCreate and Adobe Illustrator. She is open to any new opportunities in the art community and beyond. She would gladly take any commissions or requests. If you would like to talk about working together, or if you have a specific project you would like to propose, please do not hesitate to contact her.
